Welcome to the Copythorne (New Forest) Carnival

The carnival in Copythorne has been running since 1947, the aim of the carnival weekend is to raise funds for the local scout group the 2nd Copythorne (Stanleys Own) Scout Group, Charity Number 1015583.

Who are Stanleys Own Scouts

Stanley’s Own is one of the longest established Scout Groups and was founded in 1910 by Major R C H Sloane-Stanley who was a colleague of Baden Powell. It has its Headquarters in Romsey Road, Copythorne in the New Forest.

The original Scout Hut was built in 1912 and is probably the oldest Headquarters in Hampshire still in use.

What are we raising funds for?

Stanley’s Own has 2 Beaver Colonies, 2 Cub Packs, 2 Scout Troops and Explorer Scouts, also Brownies, Guides and Rainbows use the Headquarters therefore that over 200 youths, and their Leaders, meet weekly at the Headquarters during term time.

Stanley’s Own also has a Scout and Guide Band that formed in 1935. The Band performs at parades, carnivals and various occasions in our district.
The funds raised over the carnival weekend is “to keep the lights on”. It helps with maintenance as well as utility bills allowing Stanley’s Own to keep the scout membership fees down.
